AN OPEN DOOR TO VIBRANT LIFE
We've explored how Jesus being "The Door" means He's our ultimate protector and the sole way to salvation. But there's another beautiful facet to this truth from John 10:9:
Jesus is the open door to God.
The verse says, "They will come in and go out, and find pasture." For sheep, pasture is a peaceful, abundant place. It’s where they find nourishment (food) and safety (rest). Jesus doesn’t just save us; He brings us into a daily, flourishing connection with God, where we are fed, cared for, and truly thrive.
There is beauty and new life when we go through the door.
Remember that iconic moment in The Wizard of Oz when Dorothy steps out of her house, blown across the land by the tornado? Up to this point, the film is in black and white. But, as she opens that door, everything transforms into vibrant, breathtaking color. Suddenly, the world is alive and beautiful.
That's what it's like when we step through the door of Jesus. Before Him, things can feel dull, broken, gray, and devoid of true safety. We might feel caught in the "tornado of life," tossed about by circumstances. But through Him, we find color, purpose, and abundance. That’s the "pasture" Jesus talks about – not just survival, but a full, flourishing life.
This door isn’t locked; it’s an open invitation to come in and belong. We can spend our whole lives knocking on doors, searching for our place to belong, only to find disappointment. It isn’t until we walk through the door of the Shepherd that we find true belonging.
This door, THE Door, isn’t locked; it’s an invitation for anyone to come in, belong, and experience a deeper life with God. The truth is, Jesus is the only door that leads to life, and He guards it with His own life.
There are no shortcuts, no side doors to life with God. Jesus is the only way in. And that door is wide open to anyone who wants in, even with their muddy boots. Step through today and experience the protection, the nourishment, and the full life He offers.
Let's Reflect:
What does the "pasture" (a place of nourishment and safety) symbolize for you in your relationship with God?
How has stepping through the "door" of Jesus brought color, purpose, or abundance into your life?
What "muddy boots" or messes are you hesitant to bring through Jesus' open door? How can you embrace His full welcome?
Let's Pray: Jesus, You are the Door to everything we need. Thank You for not just saving us, but for inviting us into abundant life and daily connection with God. Open our eyes to the vibrant "color" and purpose You offer. We confess that sometimes we try to find other ways or are ashamed of our messes. Thank You that Your door is always open, welcoming us just as we are. Help us to step through that door today, and every day, into the pasture You provide. Amen.
